Fabless semiconductor company Spreadtrum Communications Monday said its LTE SoC (system on chip) platform— SC9820 has been deployed by Lava for first 4G-enabled featurephone, Lava Connect M1.
Noida-based handset maker has launched its 4G phone in the Indian market in February, 2017, powered by Spreadtrum’s 28nm 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 LTE platform SC9820 that supports VoLTE (voice over LTE) and dual SIM capability.
As the world’s first LTE feature phone chipset, Spreadtrum SC9820 integrates 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor, ARM Mali-400 MP1 GPU for 3D graphics acceleration and supports TDD-LTE, FDD-LTE, GSM modes and GPRS connectivity, the company in a statement said.
Lava Connect M1 feature phone priced at Rs 3,000 comes with a 512 MB RAM/4GB ROM storage, a MicroSD slot up to 32GB and comes pre-installed with Facebook Lite.
“SC9820 is a breakthrough product by Spreadtrum,” Leo Li, Chairman and CEO, Spreadtrum Communications said, adding that the launch of Lava Connect M1 will create possibilities for features phones users in India and will be a milestone in transforming country to a Digital India.
China-based Spreadtrum, an affiliate of Tsinghua Unigroup is helping operators to migrate from 2G and 3G to 4G networks at a lower cost.
