LG's latest monitor should tick all the boxes for those after a cleaner multiple monitor setup. With a screen size of 42.5 inches, the catchily named 43UD79-B can display a single source in 3840 x 2160 resolution full screen, or up to four screens of full HD from different sources all at once.
The 43UD79-B delivers a 42.5 inch display space with native 4K ultra HD resolution at 3840 x 2160 pixels with a 60Hz refresh rate, IPS display technology for extremely wide viewing angles and a non-glare coating as a nice little bonus feature. LG is claiming a fairly conventional peak brightness of 350 nits with a very decent native contrast ratio of 1000:1 and an 8ms response time for the 43UD79-B. So far none of these specs are anything to write home about. Furthermore, the 43UD79-B delivers support for 10-bit color, or 1.07 billion RGB color values. This however isn’t native 10-bit color capacity but instead uses an 8-bit panel with integrated A-FRC to simulate 10-bit color depth. LG will also ship the monitor out with precision factory color calibration.
Other features which further boost the multi-use chops of the 43UD79-B are the inclusion of AMD FreeSync variable sync technology, a specialized Game Mode, Black Stabilizer features, Dynamic Action Sync mode technology and a decent load of connectivity specs which include dual HDMI 2.0 inputs for 4K at 60Hz, another two HDMI 1.4 inputs, one USB 3.1 Typ-C port with the capacity to carry DisplayPort signals, and an actual DisplayPort 1.2a port for 4K at 60Hz as well. The inclusion of FreeSync is a solid nod to 4K PC gamers in this particular PC display but LG’s delivery of an 8ms response time might put some gamers off in this case. IPS monitors never match the near-instant 1ms response times of their TN display counterparts but a many of them do manage 4 to 5ms.
This very broad load of inputs is actually on the uncommon side by 4K monitor standards and in the case of the 43UD79-B it allows for easy feeding in of PC signals from four different external machines, which is great in the 43UD79-B in particular since it comes with a whole cost of picture splitting options that not many other monitors offer.
Some of these include four-way split-screen with each display space offering 21.5 inches of 1080p resolution, splits into dual displays of both horizontal and vertical types or splits into three different sections with variable sizes. The monitor also offers Picture-in-Picture capacity and comes with a nifty LG Dual Controller feature for using the monitor with two different computers but displaying in different parts of the same screen but both individually controlled from the same mouse/keyboard combo as needed.
As for purchasing the LG 43UD79-B 4K UHD FreeSync monitor, LG is already allowing pre-orders in the U.S for $697 from select sides like Adorama. The monitor starts shipping from May 9th
