The Samsung DeX is a docking station that transforms your Galaxy S8 into a desktop PC.

DeX is a productivity tool that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 will pair with to morph into a desktop PC-like environment. The dock will support the monitor connection via HDMI, keyboard, mouse, and two USB ports to help expand the Galaxy S8’s connectivity. Samsung’s dock also has a cooling feature — a special embedded fan to help keep the Galaxy S8 cool when it is being used to display Android apps on a monitor, and a USB-C connection to power it.

Providing a desktop experience to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, the dock is sold separately by the company. At the unveiling, no pricing was revealed. Now, the company has revealed the Dex Station price, says it will start shipping from "late April". It has been priced $149.99 (roughly Rs. 9,700).

The Samsung DeX Station comes with multiple ports for connection including two USB Type-A 2.0, a LAN Ethernet, an HDMI output, and a USB Type-C charging port. Notably, the company has already started taking pre-orders for the device.

"The Samsung DeX Station enables you to turn your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ into a true desktop PC experience. By docking the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ into the DeX Station, your phone will launch a special DeX mode on the connected external monitor and applications can be opened in multiple separate windows. Connect a mouse, keyboard, and Ethernet cable for added productivity," Samsung says in the product description.

Interestingly, the DeX dock even comes with a built-in fan that keeps the device cool while docked in. Considering the Galaxy Note 7 explosion incidents and heat issues that usually surround Samsung devices, this could prove to be an important addition while the phone allows users to complete some complex tasks in a PC-like experience.
