TINDER’S NEW DESKTOP APP PUSHES YOU TO ACTUALLY TALK TO PEOPLE

One of the most popular dating app Tinder is all set to introduce a fresh way to connect to new and interesting people around you, with the launch of a web-optimized version of its app, Tinder Online, which will let you make left or right swipes on your desktop now.

Tinder Online also requires you to sign in via your Facebook account, however for a time being, it will also not provide you access to Tinder’s monetizing services like Tinder Boost and Super Like.

Brian Norgard, who is the Head of  Product at Tinder says that the purpose of launching Tinder Online is to aid those smartphone users who do not have sufficient memory space in their cell phone, or the ginormous data plan to sustain Tinder’s image based news-feed. The advent of this version of Tinder is crucial because it provides the swiping and messaging options to desktop users, which are easier to power in comparison to mobile app.

Also, as per the blog post, Tinder Online is also being introduced for the people who send a lion’s share of their time in front of their desktop, either in school or at work, and wish to switch their tabs between their usual work and Tinder.

“Introducing Tinder Online: a fun, new web experience and your English professor’s worst nightmare. Mobile phones not allowed in class? Just fire up your laptop and swipe incognito. Cubicle life got you down? Now you can toggle between spreadsheets and Super Likes in a flash. “Not Enough Storage?” Not a problem. Don’t let life get in the way of your Tinder game.”
Tinder has the legacy of being a native app on both iOS and Android. However, its remarkable presence in 196 different countries across the world has almost compelled it to bring more flexible ways of adding new users with itself.

On the question of privacy, the company says that the only customer information they take is their location to find people around them. Also, the service requires a sign in through Facebook, which means it always has access to ample amount of personal information about the user, and therefore, the need of accessing the browser history falls vague.

Norgard says;

Our DNA is mobile so there was a learning curve involved in building something for a bigger screen. It was a challenge because when you start your birth as a mobile company, building for the web feels like you’re going backwards. There is a different skill set from a design perspective and a user behavior perspective. What makes Tinder great on your phone might not make it great on the desktop, and vice versa.

It is also a noted fact that its users are the only way through which Tinder makes its earning, and its broadening reach through its entry on he desktop has raised hopes that many more customers will convert into paid users by associating themselves with Tinder Plus and Tinder Boost, boosting their revenue figures.

Tinder also faced the problem of being talked about as a game rather than a dating app. Once the match was made, the app displayed “Keep Playing!” in priority over “Send Message.”  But now, “Send Message” is prioritized over “Keep Swiping!”

Tinder Online is currently in test in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Philippines, and Sweden, and will soon be launched globally.
