A new Indiegogo campaign is trying to sell a Bluetooth phone accessory that’ll let you take calls on a plastic banana-looking thing. Novelty, yes. The device has a built-in microphone and speaker, and it charges over a Micro USB. It can apparently last 10 hours on a single charge, or 70 hours if you leave it to idle. Obviously it has a button for hanging up a call, too. Although it’s officially called the Banana Phone, it isn’t actually a phone. To reiterate: it’s a Bluetooth phone accessory that requires a cellphone to actually work. One will cost you $40 (Rs. 2572).
According to the co-founders behind the Banana Phone, the purpose of the phone is to "put smiles on faces and start great conversation."
1 percent of the phone's sales profits also go to Gearing Up for Gorillas, a non-profit organisation working towards the conservation of gorillas.
For now, the Indiegogo campaign has reached over $9,000 and is still some way off its target of $30,000.
It really doesn’t do much, but it is a fun novelty. In fact, it only has 3 buttons: volume up, volume down and home. It can receive calls, as well as make them (using a voice assistant). Battery life is estimated at 10 hours of talk time, making it a handy gadget for those who would rather not pull out their phones to make a call… and prefer to do so with fruits.
These start shipping this coming September, if the goal is met. The team has collected about a third of its funding goal and the campaign has a month left to go.
There's only a month left so if you want your own Banana Phone, you better act fast.
