Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC Spotted on Company Site, will debut on the Galaxy S9 next year

The Snapdragon 845 SoC from Qualcomm was spotted briefly on the company’s website. The processor was spotted with the unannounced Snapdragon 630 and 660, which are tipped to launch in Beijing soon. All three devices are rumoured to be launched this year and will start shipping on smartphones in early 2018.

An IT Homes report states that the new processors will be fabricated on a new 7nm process and will be manufactured by TSMC, a company whose clientele includes Apple, MediaTek and AMD among others. The new processors will fit in a smaller frame and have improved performance when compared to existing SoC’s.

The Snapdragon 845 is also rumoured to debut on the Samsung Galaxy S9, due out early next year.

The Snapdragon 660 is rumoured to be the successor of the 652 SoC and may come with UFS 2.1 storage support and two LPDDR4 RAM modules clocked at 1866MHz. The GPU could be the Adreno 512 and the processor may have four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.9GHz along with four A53 cores clocked at 1.9GHz.

The 845’s predecessor, the Snapdragon 835 SoC has been in the news lately, for delaying the launch of several smartphones this year, most notably because Samsung had called first dibs on the processor by hoarding the lion’s share of the initial stock.
